Sandy Footprint

Footprints 2

B-Crafty has a homemade “treasure” that you will “treasure” forever! You only need the beach, your child’s footprint, plaster of paris and water.

Issue #31

Occasion: Summertime

Category: Keepsake

Materials Needed:

Plaster of Paris (at least a 1 lb bag for each footprint)
Water
Container to mix Plaster of Paris and water
Sandy beach

Footprints 1

Instructions:

At low tide, have your child make an impression of their footprint in the wet sand on the beach. (Make sure the sand is not too wet, otherwise the impression will just not hold it’s shape.)

At the beach then mix the Plaster of Paris and water according to the directions on the package. Make sure you take regular tap or bottled water to the beach as salt water will not work. Pour the Plaster of Paris mixture into the footprint in the sand. Smooth out the top to make it level. Then just wait until the mold sets and hardens and then lift out of the sand. The best part of this is that the footprint mold is coated with a light layer of sand. Mark the back with your child’s name and date.

B-Crafty Tip: The finished footprint can be used as a paperweight and will always bring back memories of your time on the beach with your child.
