Ice Cream Cone Santa Hat

B-Crafty has a great edible art project for Thanksgiving time, “Nutter Butter Acorns”. So easy to make and so good to eat!

Issue #107

Occasion: Christmas

Category: Table Favors/Ornament

Materials:

  • Sugar ice cream cone
  • Small glass filled with about 2 inches of water
  • Red acrylic paint
  • Snow-Tex paint
  • Small piece red and white baker’s twine (optional)
  • Hot glue (optional)

Instructions:

  • Spoon 2 teaspoons of water into the inside of the cone. Then with the pointed end down, stand the cone in the glass of water for 10 seconds.
  • Pour out the water from the inside of the cone and place the cone in a microwave oven for 10-20 second
  • Remove the cone. The bottom of it will now be soft enough so that it can be bent. With the seam side of the cone facing down, bend the pointed end to the side and let it dry completely
  • When the cone is dry and set, paint the outside of the cone with the red paint
  • When the red paint is dry, brush on the “Snow-Tex” around the rim of the cone and place a dab of the “Snow-Tex” on the tip of the cone
  • If you want to make the Santa Hat into an ornament, tie the baker’s twine into loop and affix it with hot glue on the bent part of the cone at top

B-Crafty Tip: If you want to decorate the Ice Cream Cone Santa Hat, you can add a splash of holly by cutting the leaves out of green felt and add a small red pompom. (See picture of broken cone….broken cone courtesy of curious and hungry, best dog ever, “Bo”)
