Easter Basket Real Grass

Thanks to a B-Crafty friend and follower for introducing B-Crafty to “Easter Basket Real Grass”! The secret of this one is to start on Ash Wednesday so that you have a full patch of grass by Easter Sunday.

Issue #121

Occasion: Easter

Category: Kid’s Delight

Materials:

  • Dollar store Easter Basket (as you will only use one time)
  • Plastic bag
  • Aluminum foil
  • Top soil
  • Packet of grass seeds
  • Water and sunlight

Instructions:

  • Line the basket with aluminum foil and make an edge at the top
  • Line the inside of the aluminum foil with a plastic bag
  • Fill the plastic bag with top soil
  • Sprinkle the top of the soil with Vermiculite and then sprinkle the grass seeds on the top of that
  • Water every day using a spray water bottle and place the basket in the sunlight so that the grass turns a vibrant green.  (in places where the weather is more mild, you can place the baskets outside during the day)
  • Watch and wait for it to grow. You will start to see growth after two weeks. If you are lucky you may even need to trim it. Best length for the grass is 1 to 2 inches.

B-Crafty Tip: B-Crafty does not have a green thumb so she would always have extra paper Easter grass on hand just in case the real grass growing was not successful.
