Happy Mother’s Day

B-Crafty is taking a well deserved week off from posting for Mother’s Day, but the webmaster (her son) has decided not to and the reason is simple: Betsy (to break the fourth wall here) has never given anything less than her entire self to everything she’s done and I don’t want to either, even if that means posting on her website without her permission.

I have loved posting my mom’s arts & crafts every week here for 177 editions for selfish reasons. Firstly, because there’s now a library of the incredible amount of creativity she’s done that I can refer to whenever I want. Secondly, because I get great fulfillment in seeing her get enjoyment out of putting together her weekly post.

Posting an entry on B-Crafty is my favorite weekly activity. It’s shown me how much effort my mother puts into something be it big or small and it’s only recently that I’ve realized how that’s how she handles herself with everything. Whether it’s being on the School Board, putting together a retirement gift for a long-time librarian, working on the Board of Supervisors, making dinner for the family, dressing the windows at Talbots, writing a Thank You card, keeping the score book at the Valley Forge Basketball League – the list goes on and on, but in each and every pursuit, whatever it is, B-Crafty puts her whole self into it. The one role she’s never even considered taking a moment off from: being my mother and I can’t even put into words how much that means to me.

Last week B-Crafty was taking me shopping and I was legitimately shocked by the number of strangers who approached her and complimented her about her outfit, her look, and her presentation. She very humbly told me that I would be surprised how often it happens. It put a smile on my face because it further revealed something I’ve always thought, especially with her. You’ll get in return the energy you put out in the world. My mother puts out the best, most vibrant energy of anyone I know, and in return she gets it all back.

She lights up rooms, she makes everyone feel special, and never asks for anything back. Betsy has put everything into being my mother and that’s the craft she’s mastered above all others.

Happy Mothers Day

Love,

Brian
