Mini Twine Easter Basket

B-Crafty is excited to share this new craft using the bottom cups of an egg carton to create “Mini Twine Easter Basket”.  This craft takes a bit more time than usual because you have to wrap and glue over a yard of twine around each egg carton cup. The final product is worth the effort.

Issue #205

Occasion: Easter

Category: Table Favor/Treat

Materials:

  • Empty egg carton
  • 3” round piece of cotton mini print fabric (Pastel Colors preferred)
  • 4 feet of 4 mm or 5 mm jute twine
  • Hot Glue

Instructions:

  • Cut the bottom cups of the egg carton out and trim to about ¾” high
  • Place the circle of fabric inside the bottom of the cup and fold over the top edge trimming so there is only about ¼” hanging over
  • With the hot glue secure all the edges of the of the fabric on the outside of the carton cup
  • Cut a 3 ½” piece of twine to use as the basket handle
  • Fasten the ends of this piece of twine with hot glue to two sides of the basket right over the fabric edges you have already attached
  • With the remaining twine place a dab of hot glue on the very bottom of the carton cup and start to wrap the twine around using the hot glue
  • Keep the wrapping as tight as you can and as uniform
  • Continue until you wrap the very top edge, trim the excess twine and affix the end with the glue
  • Fill the mini basket with about 6-7 jelly beans (I use Jelly Belly as they are the right proportional size)

B-Crafty Tip: Once you get going, the quickest way to glue is to leave the glue gun in your dominate hand and wrap with your other one. It is very difficult and time consuming to have to keep putting the glue gun down.
