Jellybean Carrot

B-Crafty has never used a test tube as a container for any craft but this Easter she found a way in the Jellybean Carrot treat. Very easy to assemble and no glue needed! Impossible not to have a Hoppy Easter with this jellybean carrot!

Issue #217

Occasion: Easter

Category: Treat or Table Favor

Materials:

  • 35 ml Plastic Test Tube with Cork Top
  • 21 Orange Jellybeans
  • Green Pipe Cleaner
  • 1 inch wide Green Masking Tape
  • “Wrapables” Colorful Pattern Washi Masking Tape – (Orange Dots or other Orange Prints)
  • Green and White Bakers Twine
  • White paper for “Hoppy Easter” tag
  • Meat thermometer

Instructions:

  • Fill the test tube with the jellybeans and place the cork on top
  • Wrap 3 pieces of the orange printed tape around the tube, one near the bottom, one in the middle and one near the top (basically dividing the tube in thirds) Each piece of tape is approximately 2 ¾ inch long
  • Bend the pipe cleaner into the three leaves of the carrot top by bending at ½ inch, then make the first leaf 1 inch long, then the center one 2 inches long then the final one 1 ½ inch long (see picture)
  • Make your little message tag and punch a hole in it and thread the baker’s twine through it and knot it in a loop
  • Cut a piece of the green masking tape measuring approximately 3 inches long and then make it thinner by cutting off a ¼ an inch from it’s width
  • Wrap the green masking tape around the top concealing the cork
  • With the meat thermometer poke a hole in the middle of the cork
  • Press the end of the green pipe cleaner carrot top into the hole in the cork making sure to lasso the green baker’s twine and tag on the top

B-Crafty Tip: B-Crafty gently taps the end of the test tube once the jellybeans are inside to make more room so that the cork top securely holds them in with no rattle.
