In the 2004 sand sculpture contest our entry was “Sand Pool Table” and we came home with First Place! Rather than cover the base of the table with green Jell-O, B-Crafty’s son (and web master) suggested a couple days before that we use seaweed instead. And miraculously on the day before the contest, a ton of green seaweed washed up on our beach. We bagged it up in trash bags and took it to the contest the next morning.

Issue #140
Occasion: Beach Time
Category: Sand Sculpting

Materials Needed:
- Sandy beach
- Bucket and shovel
- Green Seaweed
- Various flavors/colors of Jell-O
- Flour
- Imagination

Instructions:
This was one of the few sculptures that was wider than tall so the key is clearing a big area. Start in the middle and build each pool ball. As you work your way around begin to make the corners and the bumper. The last step was to sprinkle the green seaweed all around the pool table top.
B-Crafty Tip: This sculpture was a crowd favorite most likely because the seaweed made it pop! It was one of B-Crafty’s favorites too as her parents made it down for the day to watch the whole production.

Betsy Love it! It is so clever and eye-catching First prize was well deserved. You must have a whole album of pictures you can browse through during the winter doldrums. They would cheer your spirits and give you time to think about next summer. An album would be a real treasure. LovePat Pat
