Magic Jelly Beans

B-Crafty thanks her friend T-Crafty’s mom for this “Magic Jelly Beans” idea. This is a fun one to pass on to all generations to come, a timeless treasure.

Issue:  #172

Occasion: Easter

Category: Kid Activity

Materials:

  • Handful of assorted colored jelly beans
  • Bag of Tootsie Roll Pops
  • Outside garden/dirt area or a flower pot filled with soil

Instructions

  • Anytime during the Easter season, with your child “plant” the jellybeans in the soil.
  • Overnight when they are sleeping stick the Tootsie Roll Pops into the same soil making it look like the jellybeans sprouted the Pops.

B-Crafty Tip: This is a great idea to execute on Easter Eve, but sometimes the next day is so busy this activity gets lost so do it anytime after the start of Spring during the Easter season.

This has been a family tradition in my extended family for decades. Ours involve “magic beans”. Tina Rodgers Lesher wrote an article that was published in the late 70s by the Plainfield (NJ) Courier-News and the Scranton (PA) Times.
