Sand Phillies Phanatic

A family and fan favorite, B-Crafty’s clan built the “Sand Phillies Phanatic” in 2008 and captured second place in the OCNJ Sand Sculpting Contest.. We used many fun props including an actual baseball hat and a paper party blower coming from his snout. Use your imagination and just have fun. Go Phillies!

Issue #187

Occasion: Beach Time

Category: Sand Sculpting

Materials Needed:

  • Sandy beach
  • Bucket and shovel
  • Various flavored Jell-O, including lime, raspberry and orange
  • Flour
  • Painted Shells for eyes and eyebrows
  • Beach twigs
  • Party blower
  • Phillies baseball hat

Instructions:

The keys for this sculpture are to make the stomach large enough and to create a surface on a slight incline for the Phillies Phanatic’s head. Coloring this sculpture really brings it to life; the lime Jell-O, the raspberry Jell-O, the flour, and the orange Jell-O for the shoelaces.

B-Crafty Tip: For an added touch, B-Crafty used baseball themed paper plates to outline the area on the beach where we the Phanatic.
