Popsicle Stick Sled Ornament

B-Crafty loves Christmas in July so here’s a new holiday craft; “Popsicle Stick Sled Ornament”. A little painting, a little gluing and it’s done.

Issue #186

Occasion: Christmas

Category: Ornament/Favor

Materials:

  • 6 wooden popsicle or craft sticks
  • Red and green acrylic paint
  • 9 inch piece of baker’s twine
  • Hot glue
  • Exacto knife or like sharp tool

Instructions

  • Paint all the sides and edges of two of the sticks with the red paint. Let dry
  • With an Exacto knife cut an inch and ¼ off the top 3 of the sticks. For two of the sticks make the cut line on an angle.  For the other one cut it straight across.  For the fourth popsicle stick cut a piece that is 2 ¼ inches long  Round the edges of the cut side. Save all the pieces you cut off
  • On the stick that was cut straight, paint small holly leaves with green paint and add the berries with red paint
  • On the small 2 ¼ inch piece, paint the current year with the green paint
  • With the hot glue, affix the red painted sticks’ edge to the non painted sticks that are cut with a diagonal edge
  • Cut the left over small pieces diagonal edges straight across and glue them to connect the underside of the sled
  • Glue the holly painted stick in the middle of the sled
  • Glue the dated piece across the top
  • Affix the baker’s twine to each end of the dated piece.
  • Glue the cut piece from the center stick to the underside of the cross bar so it is sticking out at the top
